Worst Wedding Ever? Do Tell.

smashed%20cake.jpgLast month I went to the wackiest wedding ever. I barely knew the couple, but I was still totally pumped because I was ready to get my Hava Nagila on. What transpired during the reception was mortifying. First of all, instead of the traditional Hava Nagila, they chose a terrible techno version that consisted of a continuously looped house beat with a Goldfrapp wannabe singing over it. It gets worse. Instead of boosting the bride and groom into chairs and inviting everyone to dance around them, the groomsmen hoisted them up one at a time. Who does that? The whole point is for the newly married couple to gaze at each other from up high, looking totally petrified.

After two bounces of the bride, they proceeded to drop her as they lowered her to the ground. Luckily, someone was able to catch her before she face planted. Or was it? I mean, if it's gonna be bad, it should be totally bad, face plant and all, right?

I'm sure you've got your own worst wedding story. The Vagabond Acting Troupe wants you to share it with them. They're conducting a Worst Wedding Contest, which will be judged by ensemble members.

So share your stories. Worst Wedding Contest entrants will compete for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including a wellness basket that contains a 1-hour Swedish massage, home and body products from L'Occitane en Provence, and more. Runners-up will receive various theater tickets and gift certificates from local businesses.

Entries should be submitted no later than February 15, with entries received by February 7 receiving priority for public readings. There's no entry fee, and winners will be judged on creativity, story content, and length (stories should be no longer than 750 words in length). The winner will be announced on February 24 during the final performance of Eric Singel's one-man play, The Wedding Consultant, at L2 Restaurant and Bar, 2201 South Street.

Entries should be submitted to: The Vagabond Acting Troupe, Worst Wedding Contest, P.O. Box 355, Morgantown, PA 19543-0355 or via email at vagabondactingtroupe(@)gmail.com. For more information, visit their website.
