
- The Daily News has a sad and disturbing calendar up, listing by day the name and age of every one of last year's homicide victims. Sadly, with the turn of the year, little has changed; minutes into 2007, another young man was killed by gunfire, this time at the hands of police. He and at least four other even younger males were firing guns into the air from a porch roof in the 1700 block of North 59th Street. The cops say when they arrived, the boys started firing at the officers, who returned fire, killing a 20-year-old man named Bryan Jones.
- Although the parade was postponed, some Mummers still strutted their stuff Monday at the Fancy Brigades' indoor competition at the Convention Center. The Daily News has the results.
- Democratic representative Thomas Caltagirone has announced he supports Republican John Perzel's reelection campaign for Speaker of the House, thus making the Democrat's position in the PA state house even more precarious, and earning angry cries of "traitor!" from other Democrats.
- Meanwhile, the lay-offs have begun at the Philadelphia Inquirer.
