
- The police have caught one of the city's most dangerous killers - although they didn't know he was one of the city's most dangerous killers when they arrested him. They were booking him for stealing a cell phone when they realized who they had.
- Two police raids this past Friday and Saturday turned up a bunch of drugs (including especially large amounts of cocaine), guns, and wads of cash.
- The Board of Ethics is asking that 2007 Philly Mayoral candidates abide by those campaign finance limits we've heard so much about, even if a judge did throw them out last week. The ruling may be appealed by the city, and the decision suspended, but until then we guess the candidates are on their honor to follow the rules. Heh. Yeah, that'll work.
- The Philadelphia Inquirer has a fun article describing the Philly premier of Rocky Balboa and the events surrounding it - including when Stallone repeated his famous run up the Art Museum steps earlier in the day.
- The president of the police union has stated that, in the light of the rising violence in the city, a change is needed, and the Police Commissioner should be replaced.
- About 9300 Philadelphia houses - 3% more than last year - won't have heating this winter. If you need information on heating assistance programs, call either the PUC Bureau of Consumer Services (888-782-3228), or your utility company.
- The unions at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News have voted to approve a new three-year contract. It means major concessions and likely layoffs, but it also means no strike. So...yay?
- Philadelphia Park opened southeastern PA's first slot machine parlor yesterday. The slots are apparently already drawing big crowds, and big money.
