Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

  • Check out this awesome chronological compilation of the work of Ray Harryhausen, master of the stop-motion animated monster. (Via)
  • Love your Wii, but disappointed you've got no new Mario adventure game to play on it? Well, us, too, but it looks like we might have to wait quite a bit for it yet: Reggie says Super Mario Galaxy could be coming out any time between March 2007 and Christmas 2007. Great. Thanks for narrowing that down for us, Reggie.
  • We didn't remember there being a Starship Troopers 2; apparently it was a straight-to-video classic. But now all the sudden comes the horrifying news that there will be a Starship Troopers 3! We're not clear on whether this one will hit the big screen first before heading to DVD, but either way we plan on avoiding it like the plague. You can talk until you're blue in the face about the original Starship Troopers being a clever satire, but we all know deep in our hearts that it's just a terrible, awful film with bad acting, even worse dialogue, and plot holes you could drive a giant bug through.
  • Two armed burglars forced their way into a house in Ohio on Monday and tied up one of their victims with a PlayStation cord. They then ransacked the house, taking the PlayStation console...and found they had to untie their victim, because they needed the cord. D'oh! (Via Jill)
  • A video history of an illustration merging two classic Nintendo franchises: Mario and Metroid. Very cool. (Via)

More after the jump...

  • Gamers win again: another stupid Jack Thompson-authored anti-game law has gone down in flames.
  • RetroZone is offering pre-orders on adapters that will allow you to use your old NES and SNES controllers with your Wii. Obviously, you won't be able to play new Wii games with them (and why would you want to, anyway?); just the classic Virtual Console games. Which is pretty cool, if you're into this whole retro thing. (Via)
  • Yay! The second part of Street Fighter: The Later Years is now available! It's good stuff. We can't wait for part three!
  • All famous Hollywood actors must eventually do at least one Japanese beer commercial. It is the law. So here's one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's. And you can find links to even more, similar ads featuring the Arnold on the same page. Hooray! (Via)
  • You know, you can't really appreciate The Book of Mormon until you've read it in the original Klingon.
  • Merriam-Webster asks, what shall be the word of the year? The word that defines 2006 forever and ever? Only you can answer! Click to vote. You can also see the top ten words of the year from previous years. (Via)

Oh, you wacky scamp, with your horseplay and humour-jokes.

You were joking, right? Because if you weren't, I might have to bludgeon you to death with the corpse of a beloved pet or something.

Nope, not joking! I hate that movie.

Oh, and if you try to turn Floyd into a corpse, you're going down, my friend.
