Time to Slip into Your Jacket

You know who's awesome? My Morning Jacket. We've just been listening to their last studio release, Z, again, and it is absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. We were wary of them at first when we heard the word "country" bandied about in descriptions of their music, but most of the time people added "alt" to the beginning of that, which made it more palatable. And then we actually listened to them. Although their music certainly has a vaguely country flavor, it's also spiced with the taste of many other genres, to create a fascinating swirl of rock, jazz, blues, soul, country, pop, and indie. It's great stuff. And now My Morning Jacket have a new double live album out, whose title, Okonokos, we're not really quite sure how to pronounce. Even better, they're coming to town this Friday with Benevento Russo Duo and The Slip (who are also on MySpace, of course)! Never heard of The Slip? Well, Jim James from My Morning Jacket is a big fan, and we're a bit of a fan, too, now that we've listened to their recent release Eisenhower a few times. Sometimes they get a bit too pop-emo for us, but a lot of the album is quite catchy and excellent, especially tracks like "Even Rats." Speaking of which, you can download "Even Rats" below, as well as another fun track off of Eisenhower.

The show appears to be sold out, but we haven't mentioned the best news yet, and that's this: we've got two tickets to this fantastic performance by three great bands to give away to you!
