- Another quick look at how the election turned out for the region: we've got 3 new Democratic members of the City Council, Philly voters overwhelmingly supported the 3 ballot questions (which means, in case you didn't understand them - and we wouldn't blame you - that Gulf War vets will get special payments; the city charter will be changed to promote disadvantaged businesses; and the children of firefighters and police who die on the job will be provided a civil-service preference), Ed's back, we can all say good-bye and good riddance to tricky Rick, and Philly helped the Dems take the House. Whew. So this means the crazy races and political ads are over for quite a while, right? Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding "No" according to the Daily News; they're already declaring the start to the race for Mayor. Sigh.
- Philadelphia Inquirer editor Amanda Bennett has been ousted (she'll leave officially at the end of the year) and replaced by former Inquirer reporter, and former NPR executive, Bill Marimow. Meanwhile, the paper could also be losing some staff - reports vary as to how much, but 150 (out of a current total of 425) is the number being mentioned the most.
- On Tuesday a woman on a plane from San Diego to Philly opened her meal tray and found a note explaining that there was a bomb on board. The plane landed and was moved to a remote area of Philadelphia International where it was inspected by the bomb squad and the FBI. So far, they haven't found anything, and don't expect to; in fact, they suspect the note has something to do with bad feelings between US Airways and a maintenance company that they used to employ. D'oh.
Even the homeless endorsed Rendell, as seen in this photo by Flickr user Vince (attila)
