A Possible Shakeup at NBC 10, and Other News About the Local News

Please welcome another new author to our team, G. W. Bridge, whose diverse talents include reviewing pizza places, and covering local news items, as he does below.

Phillyist has caught wind of rumors about a major shakeup at NBC 10, via Laura Nachman’s Bucks County Courier Times column on Tuesday. The shakeup is thought to be related to NBC’s budget cutbacks announced last week.

Locally, it looks like we'll have solo anchors focusing on specific themes in the late afternoon newscasts. The 4 p.m. newscast could transform into a consumer news hour anchored by Tracy Davidson. The 5 p.m. newscast may become an issues-based hour anchored by Vince DeMentri. The 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts would remain basically the same, but have single anchors Tim Lake at 6 and Renee Chenault-Fattah at 11.

Fox 29 News has quietly shifted to HD and may start looking like Fox News Channel

While WPVI’s Action News has been beating its chest proclaiming that its newscast is in high definition, Fox 29 has quietly become the second station in the market to produce a newscast in HD, beginning at the end of September.

In more news about 29, rumor has it that a Fox News Channel-like graphics package and set design, which the Fox-owned stations are standardizing, will be appearing in time for November sweeps. Pictured is WNYW's version of the graphics adopted by several stations throughout the country.

What ever happened to John Bolaris?

In Philadelphia, former NBC 10 meteorologist John Bolaris will forever be remembered for two things: being a womanizer, and predicting a blizzard that never happened in 2001. Bolaris is now chief meteorologist with WCBS-TV in New York and has two children with former NBC 10 colleague Tiffany McElroy. McElroy is currently anchor of WPIX’s CW11 Morning News, also in New York.
