What Might They Be Demonstrating?

Apologies for the bad quality of this picture. We just looked out the window of our office building and saw that there's a small demonstration stopping traffic at 15th and JFK. Anybody know what's going on?

They were out protesting the corrupt city child welfare agencey DHS, not to be confused with the corrupt federal Department of Homeland Security.

if blogs are about reporting, which they like to claim they are, then why did soemone go outside and find out? it would have taken ten minutes.

Actually, very few blogs are about REPORTING. If you're a regular reader of Phillyist, you'll see that while we deliver a daily news rundown, we never do investigative journalism. We're not a news blog. We're a blog for and about Philadelphia. And this isn't the first time we've asked our readers for help on identifying something happening in the city.

In answer to your question, "someone," namely me, did not go out because I was under a pretty tight deadline and my boss would probably have frowned upon me going out to talk to people on the street. Especially if it was for my other job. Spending two minutes throwing together a post and asking our readers to participate in the process wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Waiting for an elevator, walking two blocks, finding someone to talk to, walking the two blocks back, and waiting for the elevator again would have taken more than ten minutes. Plus, the demonstration cleared up very quickly—I'd say that it was over within five minutes of me posting this—so isn't it better to have something about it than risk getting nothing at all?
