Foodsday Tuesday: Half Baked

brie.jpgSometimes the simplest recipes can get the most praise at a party. And a versatile one like this can be prepared so many different ways that you'll never cease to impress your guests.

BAKED BRIE, SWEET OR SAVORY
1 can over-sized crescent rolls (six rolls)
1 wedge of brie
Filling ingredients:

  • Sweet ingredients can include: fruit preserves (not jelly) or compote, fresh or frozen berries, dried fruit, maple syrup or honey, or apples

  • Savory ingredients can include: pesto, garlic and fresh herbs, sauteed asparagus, or roasted vegetables

Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick spray. Remove three rolls from the roll and press them together in a flat sheet and place them on the cookie sheet. Lay the wedge of brie on the rolls and cut a horizontal slit in it. Place filling between the two halves and pile leftover filling on top of and around the brie, making sure to leave at least half an inch to seal the baked brie together. Press the remaining three rolls together and place them on top of the brie and fillings. Squeeze the edges of the rolls together and roll up or fold over any edges that hang beyond the edges of the cheese. Bake at 350° until pastry is fully cooked and puffy (ergo the name), and cheese within is melted. Serve immediately with crackers.
