Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

  • Kill aliens with the vehicle from Halo - but not by shooting them. You actually launch the vehicle itself at them, with explosives. It's surprisingly more of a logic puzzle game than an action game. Interesting, and amusing. (Via)
  • We're fascinated by this whole time-lapse phonography thing Wired is talking about, especially the track called "Billboard," which 42 years of #1 hits into one 37-minute song. Other pop songs altered using the process - which are available for download if you follow the link - have basically been turned into short, pleasant ambient noise tracks.
  • The last of the ten "Battlestar Galactica" Webisodes should go up today, but you can also watch - online, right now - the first act (about the first 10 minutes or so) of the first episode of the third season! Just go here, click on "Watch A Full Episode & More," and then scroll down to "First Look." It's filthy and violent and disturbing, just the way we like it! (Via)
  • Comic to screen comparison images for 300. These would be more impressive if the graphic quality of the video screen grabs was better, but what do you want? Still an interesting analysis, and we still can't wait to see this film. (Via)
  • Joystiq has pictures and video from a Nintendo event at their World Store in NYC on Tuesday. There was a performance by some band, but the real excitement was that you could play the Wii. The video (included above) features footage of some really fun-looking games, plus a lot of positive reviews from the lucky folks who got to try them out. Very exciting!
  • Stephen King discusses "The Writing Life" and how it's mostly boring, and involves lots of sitting around, but sometimes there's a beast. All in all, a fun essay on the craft. (Via)

I like to think that I've got a pretty good ear, but damn if most of the time lapse audio didn't sound exactly the same.
