One Last Fringe Post, and Then We're Putting This Baby to Bed

fringebanner.jpg
Phillyist saw a lot of shows at this year's Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe. A. Lot. Of. Shows. Thirty, to be exact. And we just got word from Megan at Canary Promotions that we're not the only ones who were getting fringetastic this year. The Festival(s) saw a ten percent increase in ticket sales—about three-quarters of a million dollars in tickets, to be exact. (It's pretty impressive when you remember how much of the festival is free or cheap.) Not only that, but:
Over 250 performances sold out and over fourteen shows sold out their entire festival runs. Over the sixteen days of city-wide performing arts events, many shows extended their runs to meet audience demand. Artists who saw sold out houses and high attendance included international artists like Emio Greco | PC at the Kimmel Center, Jo Strømgren Kompani, and Two Fish; national artists such as Austin’s Rude Mechanicals and New York’s Juan Souki; and local artists including Brat Productions, Kate Watson-Wallace, Lee Ann Etzold, Geoff Sobelle and Trey Lyford, Kaibutsu, Headlong Dance Theater, Subcircle, Karen Getz, BalletX, Group Motion Dance Company, and Pig Iron Theatre Company.

We'd like to congratulate all of the artists and organizers of the 2006 PLAF. We can't wait for 2007!
