- All those gun control bills got voted down in Harrisburg, but some supporters of the legislation are calling it a success that the bills even got as far as they did.
- Folks who use Route 291 near the Philadelphia International Airport are going to be rerouted onto Bartram Avenue for some time. This is to make room for construction while a runway gets extended.
- Local restaurateur Susanna Foo acted out a fantasy of many a Philly driver Friday when she punched a parking authority officer for trying to ticket a delivery truck in a no-parking zone outside her restaurant. She also, unfortunately for her, acted out the real consequences of such actions by spending the night in jail. The Inquirer story on the whole debacle is more informative, but the Daily News story is hilarious.
- Baptists want their church in Parkside, and they're willing to sing hymns at City Council meetings to get it!
- So how good is the state doing at running the city's public schools? Street's starting a task force to find out. A report should show up around mid-January, supposedly.
- The smoking ban's effective date might get pushed back to January 7th of next year. And another bill on its way through the system would exempt those two upcoming casinos from the ban, while removing zoning control over said casinos from the hands of local government.
- A New York Times article (registration required) tells the story of some Giants fans getting abused physically and verbally by Philly fans at the Eagles/Giants game a few weeks ago. On the one hand, we kind of want to say, "Hey, welcome to Philly!" and just laugh at them. But on the other hand...our fans can get a little carried away sometimes. It's one thing to boo, but it's another thing to actually physically assault somebody (or pee in his truck!) just because he's wearing the opposing team's regalia. Anyway, in the article they also interview former Cowboys player Michael Irvin about playing in Philadelphia, and he has this great quote about our fans: "Raider fans like to paint their faces and pretend to be crazy; Eagles fans really are crazy." Word.

Why don't you use photos actually from the city you cover?
Why don't you do lots of updates on the weekend like the other -ists sites?
And finally why the hell does a church need 15 acres?
En se garant à Montréal, vous devez vraiment vous rappeler que les surveillants du trafic sont vigilants!
Generic?:
1. Well, we usually do, but in this case I couldn't find an appopriate local photo that was free to use. We don't like getting sued.
2. We'd like to, but there are only so many of us, and we have lives. Would you like to join our staff and help us out?
3. That, I don't know.
Bouchard: Is that something about how the traffic cops are vigilant in Montreal? Um...okay!
Nous avons besoin de Montréalist!
