You've noticed it, right?

Phillyist's editors would like to welcome our latest additon to the staff, Matt Johnson. Think these photos are great? You should see his website.

060929-Comcast1.jpgSince we're skyscraper-obsessed, we find routine high-rise construction to be way more exciting than anyone should. While most normal people might glance up at the crane then go about their busy lives, we stalk the construction site with a long-lens camera like the paparazzi. But we think there might be a middle ground with construction of the Comcast Center.

060929-Comcast2.jpgWork has been going on at the site, located along 17th Street between JFK and Arch, for almost two years now. The concrete core is about the same height as the William Penn statue at the top of City Hall, making the building's impact on the skyline impossible to miss.

The core's ascension was on hold for much of August and September to allow the steel skeleton to catch up, but this week it has begun to climb once again. Expect the core to rocket skyward this fall and winter, right past One Liberty Place, which has been Philly's tallest for almost 20 years.

Is Phillyist's logo in danger?
