Down in the Underground

manholecover.jpgRight on the heels of last Thursday's PECO-related, underground explosion, another underground explosion left many residents without power...this time in Northeast Philadelphia. Flying manhole covers may well become a new thing to watch out for when you're ambling about town.

There is no official word (as of this writing) as to the cause of the explosion. And although we'd like to think we're not in for a long rash of PECO-related wiring mishaps, we're sort of hoping that in the end, that's where the fault lies. Because the only other (completely scientific, entirely plausible and not remotely paranoid) reason we can think of is that the Morlocks or the C.H.U.D. have decided they want the surface world back - and we're doubly doomed if they happen to be hungry.
