- So, despite all the hoopla (evacucations, power loss, traffic headaches, etc.) yesterday, Center City did not blow-up. As of this writing, there doesn't seem to be a final official word on what caused the underground explosion, but from the accounts we've been reading, it seems to have been a PECO-related issue. So far, we've (thankfully) only seen one mention of a minor injury, and at least one person on the Philadelphia Live Journal group found all the "PANDEMONIUM" "exciting." (We're sure we would have too, but we work in the suburbs, so we just found the traffic problems a hassle when we tried to get back into the city after 5PM.)
- Sadly, there was a fatal accident at the Symphony House condo project on Broad Street yesterday - subcontractor Jeffrey Martin fell to his death.
- The Central Branch of the Free Library is getting an upgrade, thanks to a $9.5 million investment from the state and about $30 million from the city. Awesome.
- Have any unpaid parking tickets? Look out for the AutoVu. This van will roam the streets beginning in October, scanning the liscence plates of all parked cars to see if they match up with those with unpaid fines. Indentified vehicles will be booted and towed.

Across the Ist-a-Verse

Simple way to get around the "liscence plates" problem for parking violators. Buy a license plate off of ebay from some other state, stick it on the back of the car when you park. You could even rig your license plate frame for this.
