According to the FBI, Philadelphia is #1 in violent crimes for big cities. We even beat out New York City.
Pardon us if we don't cheer.
There are some excuses made for our poor showing in the Inquirer's article, including the juggling of the numbers, economic issues, insufficient ability to marshal the police, and the fact that we "aggressively" classify crimes as violent that other cities might not.
Call us old fashioned, but we don't think calling the several shootings that have happened this week "violent crimes" is that aggressive.
