Whiz of the Web: Friday Fried Onions

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

  • In the last Whiz installment, a reader reprimanded us for not mentioning any of the exciting news about the Wii that came out at Nintendo's press conferences yesterday morning. Sadly, we must admit sometimes we are a bit slow getting the cool internet news to you, but we always get it to you eventually! So here's the breakdown on all the latest Wii info: the system will launch November 19th at a price of $250 and will come bundled with one Wii remote and the Wii Sports game. First party games for the Wii will be region-free, but the system will not play DVDs. The list of confirmed launch titles can be found here (with many more available later). Games will be about $50, extra remotes will be $40, and the "nunchuck" extension will be $20. You'll be able to download classic games from previous systems for relatively cheap, as already announced (although the thought of paying for a game you already had for another system is a little painful). Nintendo also wants the Wii to be your portal to television and the internet; it will further be equipped with a digital photo viewer that can play videos; storage will be mainly via flash SD cards. You can even create a personal profile called a Mii and carry it with you on your Wii Remote. All in all, we're pretty pleased with all this news, although, as everyone else is already saying, $200 would be a lot easier to swallow as far as pricing goes. But I guess that would have eaten into their profits a little...
  • David Cross reviews the new Yo La Tengo album (yeah, the one entitled I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass) based completely on the track titles, without having listened to it at all. And yet, at times, it rings of truth! Thank you, David Cross. Oh, and if you're the boring kind of person who likes to read reviews by people who have actually listened to the album, here's one of those, too. (Via)
  • You've seen those Flash dress-up games before, but have you seen one starring Steve Jobs trying to get ready for an Apple Key Note speech?! We thought not. Well see it now, and indeed even tinker with it and perhaps screen-capture the snazzy results, by clicking right here. Wow, Steve's got some rad tats! And a very nice pirate hat. (Via)
