Dear Will,
We love Attytood. We really do. From your skewering of politicians to your essays on the future of the news, we eagerly anticipate every post and more often than not wish we could be paid to blog the way you are.
But there's one thing we don't like: your posts on the Phillies. See, earlier this summer, you admitted the following:
Note: the Phillies have an amazing history of streaking after our most pessimistic fan posts, and collapsing after our most optimistic ones -- so we'll leave it to you to ponder whether there's a hidden agenda here.
Granted, that was on June 15 -- before the trading deadline, before the Phillies ran headlong into the Wild Card race, and before we once again made the mistake of thinking they might win it.
But we're still mightily worried. And today you made us even more worried. You really want to post every day about Ryan Howard's pursuit of 61 home runs this season? Don't you realize how much this will jinx the team? Especially with five games remaining against the Astros, whom the Phillies beat yesterday for the first time in three years?
Will, from all of us at Phillyist who like the Phillies, we urge you to reconsider this plan. We think we can say this because we know you and we like your work so much. And because we really, really want the Phillies to make the playoffs, and they need all the karmic help they can get.
