Philly is known as many things: The City of Brotherly Love, The Birthplace of Liberty, home of the angriest fans in the country, &
someplace where it's always sunny (although in this Phillyist's opinion, not especially funny). And if Philly's own recent inductee into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, Kenneth Gamble, has anything to say about it, we'll also be sporting the moniker, "
The Home for Rhythm and Blues," in recognition of the impact our native sons and daughters have had on musical history. (Don't know what we're talking about? Take a walk down Broad Street and check out the Walk of Fame - or check out the history of "
The Philly Sound.")
Phillyist quite likes this idea. Not only are we for anything that promotes our city as more than just a place to revisit American History, but being "The Home for Rhythm and Blues" would likely inspire a much cooler (and sexier) version of the "Philly's More Fun if You Sleep Over" ad campaign...and who wouldn't want to see that?
Photo taken by author, somewhere in Japan, and we're not really sure what it means.
Shouldn't it be "The Home of Rhythm and Blues"?
Hey - don't complain to us - take it up with Kenneth Gamble.
Besides, it's not as though we're proposing that we be called "The Home of Appropriate Grammar."
