On Friday night, Pete Yorn played a beyond sold out show at the North Star Bar, and even though the venue runs on the smaller side of things, it fit his kind of dirty rock and roll kind of show. We’ve never seen anyone player smoke a cigarette, sing and play the bass at the same time, so props to the bass player for being able to pull that off a few times during the show.
Yorn played a long set featuring selections from Music For the Morning After, Live from New Jersey, and Day I Forgot. He also previewed songs from his upcoming album, Nightcrawler, which drops on August 29, and he served up his final encore as a fantastic cover of Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds.”
The only problem we had with the show wasn’t the actual show, but an audience member who we’ll call the Faux Hippie. Now, we’ve seen people worm their way to the front of a packed crowd before, and sometimes we don’t mind, especially if said person is short and there is a spot available. But the Faux Hippie tried to move up by pressing herself into your back or your side, and in doing so managed to piss off the group of people clustered at the front right side of the stage. Her cursing and flipping us off during Yorn’s first encore didn’t help either, or her continued cursing after we finally got her to leave our part of the floor.
So remember, kids, if you’re at a crowded show and want to move up, at least ask, and if you’re turned down, be nice about it. Otherwise, you’ll miss the show, we’ll miss the show, and we’ll have to write about it.
