Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes

The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

  • The story's old, but the pictures are still great: it's Charlie the chimp fishing! And boy, does he look like he's having fun.
  • We bet you've seen El Toro, Nose, or Bob around the streets of Philly. They're characters that appear in street art created by Frost, Nose, and Robert W. Reign, respectively. We're particular fans of El Toro (pictured here) and Bob. Anyway, the three artists and their creations will be the stars at the freejade gallery's First Friday reception this week. The show is appropriately entitled "familiar faces," and you can read more details about it here. (Via)
  • The Daily Mail has some cool pictures of a rainbow and lightning occurring at the same time. (Via)

  • WXPN launched a brand new website today: XPoNentialMusic.org. It features three live music streams: the familiar radio station stream, XPoNential Radio (which, from the description, sounds pretty much like the radio station), and YRock, which is Y100's alternative rock programming reborn in yet another new format. Besides the streams, there's plenty of other stuff on XPoNential, including the all-important voting form for the 885 All Time Greatest Artists. We think filling this out, getting your opinion known, and affecting the final list is its own reward, but it will also enter you in a contest to win the entire catalogue of whoever the top three artists turn out to be, which is a nice extra. Voting begins today and ends September 10th, but you should be ready with your list now, since we gave you a head start about a week ago.
  • Speaking of contests, GoPhila.com, Philly's official visitor site, have a cool contest going on now in their Boundless Philadelphia section, which is where they promote outdoor activities in the city area. The form is right here, and the prize is a Fuji Crosstown 2.0 bike. They're picking one winner every week throughout the summer, so you've got plenty of chances to win. Just be careful if you decide to ride your prize in Center City...
  • Oh, sweet! Nicole Kidman is going to play Mrs. Coulter in The Golden Compass! We can't even imagine better casting than that.
