Direct Connection!

Nothing says news like disco, sexy consumption of strawberries, and a man who may or may not be possessed. Just ask CBS 3! In 1979, that is...

That was awesomely horrible! Horribly awesome! Thank you, Jill!

My pleasure. Happy I could spread it to the (further) masses.

Apparently you are ignorant of history. KYW-TV was a NBC affilliate in 1979 and was owned by Westinghouse Broadcasting (Group W). In 1995, Westinghouse purchaced CBS and the station became a CBS station. The CBS 3 branding appeared in 2003, as part of a mandate from CBS where all stations would have the same type of branding.

Wow, Susan, why the negativity? Not being from the area (or alive in 1979, by the way) doesn't make me ignorant. It makes me trusting of YouTube tags. Which may or may not be better than trusting Wikipedia. But it's no reason to go around name calling.

I would have to agree with Susan, but I wouldn't have used "ignorant" there. The Great Network Switch was 11 years ago, and I am taking a very wild guess that you are not 10 years old. I don't mean this in a mean way, but if you are going to be writing for a local blog, at least try and know somethings know. And most locals call it "Channel 3" instead of "CBS 3" with "KYW" being used for just the radio station which you listened to on a snowy day in the hope of hearing your school closing number.

Not ten years old. More than double, actually. But I've only been in Philadelphia since 2002. To my credit, upon moving to Philadelphia, I tried to learn as much about it as possible. My apologies if I should have researched our media syndicates. I was a little more concerned with local history, finding my way around, and knowing good bars and restaurants. Which are, with all due respect, the things that a local blog tends to focus on.

You should watch more television. And make it into the obsessive major topic of your conversations in cafes and bars, like everyone else. At least until you've fully absorbed local attitudes and lore and the norms of proper discourse about television, and shed the leaden, TV-loathing atmosphere benighting so many of the Ivy League literati. How else will your blog entries come to embody the vital essence of the Volk?
