Earlier, this week, city leaders announced a coordinated effort to thwart local violence (and with different shootings in 3 different parts of the city in the time span of one 1/2 hour Monday morning clearly something needs to be done (via)).
Last week, the announcement came that the curfew laws for kids were going to be enforced. Philly Confidential and The Philadelphia Daily News question whether or not the current cycle of violence warrants the declaration of a State
of Emergency, complete with the calling in of the National Guard.
Frankly, Phillyist isn't sure which we find more disturbing - the mounting violence, or the thought of armed forces being called in to police our streets. And there's no snarkiness here - we're really torn. We love this city, and want to feel safe while we explore its neighborhoods and all it has to offer, but we're not convinced that martial law is the answer.
But we'll be damned if we know what is.
If you have any suggestions we'd sure love to hear 'em. (And while you're telling us, you might want to tell your local and state representatives too - most of them have email now...it won't even cost you a stamp.)
