Philly, Mixed

philadelphia06-28-06.jpgA while back, we asked you all to help us create a Philadelphia playlist, in order that we might fill a gaping void on the iTunes music store - the lack of a Philly-themed iTunes Essentials Groove. You commented and told us your selections, and the staff got into it, too. Then, word spread about what we were doing, and others gave suggestions. We compiled all the various selections, discarded those that were not available on iTunes, as well as one or two that we really just couldn't bring ourselves to include, and published an iMix at the Music Store. We'll be petitioning Apple to turn this iMix into an official Groove one of these days, but for now, and without further ado, we present to you the direct iTunes link to the Phillyist iMix! Detailed track lists of the iTunes-friendly and non-iTunes-friendly playlists can be found after the jump. Thanks for helping us put this together, Philly! We think we ended up with a pretty decent bunch of songs here, ranging across various genres and eras of music, but all strongly representative of our town. Some of you might disagree, and demand that certain tracks be removed and others be included. All we can say to you is...you should have commented when you had the chance! :p

for those that can't live without the Action News theme ("Move Closer to Your World" by Al Ham) in their mix, I would suggest adding Rifle Nice's "Move Closer to What Deaner Was Talking About." The version starts off with the Action News theme before seemlessly moving into Ween's "What Deaner was Talking About." It can be found on the Sounds from the Sixth Borough album, available at plainparade.org. The Album in itself is a good mix of current Philly rockers covering old Philly rockers.

Or if you want the pure Action News theme, visit this site (http://www.newsmusicnow.com/files.html) and it is listed under Al Ham midway down the front page.
