Whiz of the Web: Thirsty Thursday

A tall, icy glass of our favorite internet junk, just for you.

  • Wired's Game|Life blog revels - and we revel along with them - in the text of a wonderful federal injunction just issued against a recent Louisiana state bill banning violent video games from minors. The thing is basically nothing more than a lengthy and truly awesome put-down in legalese - a sort of judicial "yo momma." The central point:
The Act is devoid of any legislative finding or underlying evidence that the video games covered by the Act are directed to and likely to cause imminent violent action -- and nor could such a showing be made, as every court to have considered the issue has concluded.
    Word.
  • Speaking of violent video games...there's nothing like chopping Boy Scouts to bloody pieces with a sword while the sweet sounds of heavy metal wash over you. If you agree, you'll probably enjoy Stag Knight. Just look out for when the Boy Scouts start showing up with laser guns and lightsabers. That's about when we got killed. Oh, and as the "bloody pieces" bit should have suggested, this is not exactly SFW. The Scouts scream pretty loudly for some reason when you cut their guts out. (Via)
  • Android 207 is a very neat short film, often funny, but mostly just really creepy, which we interpret as an examination of how torturous the lives of video game characters would be if they really existed. (Via)

  • "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" is actually not our favorite show on Cartoon Network, but that's like saying original glazed isn't our favorite Krispy Kreme donut - it's still fricking awesome! So we were pretty excited to discover that Foster's has a blog, BLOGregard Q. Kazoo being it's full name. Not much there right now except some early development drawings of some of the characters, but those are still pretty cool, and more content is no doubt on its way. (Via)
  • They don't seem to be that big a problem in Philly itself, but we can tell you that in nearby South Jersey, mosquitoes are a real bitch, especially now that summer's here. Those bloodthirsty bastards are all over us whenever we go outside in the evening. That's why we're actually considering purchasing this Mosquito repeller necklace, which works by transmitting a sonic frequency that annoys the tiny vampires. We assume the noise is not audible to humans, or else you might be repelling your friends and loved ones, too.
  • Baboons in the monkey jungle of a British safari park are stealing the World Cup England flags off of people's cars and making a nice collection of them in their enclosure. Hmm...maybe we could import these baboons and teach them to steal magnetic ribbons off of SUVs? (Via)
