Day 2: The Global Creative Economy Convergence Summit

Ever wonder who thought up that “Philly’s More Fun When You Sleep Over” campaign? His name is Ed Tettemer of Red Tettemer, and yesterday he spoke to the day 2 lunch crowd at the Global Creative Economy Convergence Summit.

Though he says he’s a lot of things – including a failed blue grass guitarist – Tettemer is also an advertising guru, and spoke about the need (at least in his business) for good ads, since we have the option of skipping or tuning them out with TIVO or our iPods. He also pointed out that most people say they’re less likely to buy something if they’re bombarded by ads for the product.

These ad-related challenges have led to a few ingenious ideas for promoting the Commonwealth. Last summer’s sponsored road trips, which were posted online at visitpa.com, made Pennsylvania’s summer tourism campaign seem less like an ad than something cool to see on the web (and as someone who wrote a profile of one of the road trippers, I can tell you that it worked). Tettemer’s company also put together Groundhogchase.com, which was a Spy V. Spy internet video series, but about Punxsutawney Phil chasing his shadow. That campaign, too, worked, bringing more people out to see the state rodent (the real one – not that annoying one in the lotto commercials) this year than ever before.

Speaking (or writing) of websites, a lot of neat ones have been bandied about at the conference, both in conference sessions and in the pre-scheduled networking sessions. Here’s a few highlights:

Gather.com: Myspace for the NPR set.
Phillycreativeguide.com: Are you creative? Network here.
Inliquid.com: Website for Philadelphia artists.
Istockphot.com : Cheap-o site to spruce up your website, blog, presentations, etc.
Logoworks.com : For a relatively small fee, let a few designers take a shot at creating your logo.
