- The Tsunami threat may not have been legitmate, but this one might: according to Reuters, a report study recently revealed that "lax security" at some NJ chemical plants leaves open the potential for toxic chemicals to be loosed along the East Coast, including a "a cloud of deadly chlorine gas into Philadelphia." Before you dig out the ol' duct tape and plastic wrap, though, they're not saying it's likely to happen tomorrow; it is merely a 'worst case scenario.' But as possible 'worse cases' go, it really sucks for us. (via)
- Local rap artist Beanie Sigel was shot Thursday in South Philadelphia during an alleged attempted robbery, not far from Sigel Street. After being released from the hospital, he reportedly went directly to the studio to finish recording tracks for his new album. That's some dedication to the music right there. (via)
- And while gun violence remains a growing problem, engineers in neighboring state New Jersey are working on developing a "smart gun," to help deter gun violence. What's so smart about it? It can only be fired by its owner, which could help curb crimes performed with stolen weapons, or police weapons being turned on officers.
