Tastykake To Move Away?

Yet another reason to bemoan ever increasing gas-prices: they may be driving Tastykake, a Philadelphia snack institution away. As part of their "turnaround plan," Tasty Baking Company is considering closing their North Philly bakery, and possibly moving their operations out of Philadelphia.

Having lived away from our fair city for several years in my halcyon college days, this Phillyist can tell you that there were few things more welcome in a care package from home than a few packets of Tastykakes with their icing embedded against the wrapper. As such, I'm taking the news rather hard.

Though perhaps not as hard as the approximate 1100 people employed at their local bakeries.
