He Bleeds Phillies Red

Time to give another ballplayer the title of “Fighting Phil.” Centerfielder Aaron Rowand made a bang up catch in last night’s Phillies game – literally. He bashed his face into the center field railing, saving what could have been a triple in last night’s 2-0 win over the New York Mets.

You gotta love a guy who breaks his nose to save a game. What you don’t gotta love is that padding for that rail was waiting in the wings to be installed when the Phillies left for their series in Cincinnati.

Talk about poor timing. Rowand is undergoing surgery this morning for a broken nose and could be out for a few weeks. You can send love letters/cards/stalkers to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

And while his injury probably doesn’t deserve a “Do it for the Gipper”-type battle cry, Rowand should serve as an example to the team of how dedicated they need to be to win, and to the grounds crew that when you have padding, please install it ASAP to keep our Fighting Phils out of the hospital.
