Yo, Philly in the News

- A Philly area horse has won the Kentucky Derby again! This time it was Barbaro, beating the closest horse by almost seven lengths. Barbaro is owned by a couple from West Grove, Chester County, and trained by Michael Matz from Collegeville. Matz survived the crash of United Flight 232 in 1989, saving the lives of three children, who were in the stands to see his horse's victory on Saturday. To quote About.com, "The Philadelphia area has once again become synonomous [sic] with success in Triple Crown Races."
- In other Philly sports news, boy our fans sure gave it to Barry Bonds Friday night, bless their hearts. Bonds is approaching Babe Ruth's record, but is widely rumored to have used steroids. Thus fans held signs like the one above, and others simply displaying asterisks, and chanted things like, "Just inject me." Perhaps not coincidentally, Bonds went 0 for 3. Oh, and the Phillies won, too. Woo hoo!
- Amongst Donald Trump's various plans for Philadelphia is apparently a $300 million, 45-story skyscraper called Trump Tower Philadelphia, which will grace the banks of the Delaware River. It'll be equipped with 263 high-end condos ($700,000 to $3.5 million, if you're interested), as well as "child-care services, a wine cellar, a cigar lounge, a billiard room, and a five-star restaurant with fine dining and views of the Delaware River." (Although frankly there are certain parts of the Delaware we'd pay not to have to look at...) They'll break ground soon and plan to finish construction by 2008.
