Whiz of the Web: Monday Meat Slices

The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.

  • One of those rare albums that we'd be really curious to hear once, but then suspect we'd never want to hear again, has just be released. It's called Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics, and apparently that title is just the plain honest truth. The disc consists of bootleg-quality recordings of unrehearsed covers performed by the band during fundraisers for freeform radio station WFMU. Wow. Sounds kind of like a William Shatner album.
  • Who doesn't like Looney Tunes? If there's such a person, we wouldn't want to meet him or her. Anyways, if you're looking for a way to squeeze even more enjoyment out of those great old cartoons, check out the Looney Tunes Hidden Gags page. It's a pretty good sized list (and growing) of the little Easter Eggs hidden in various old animated shorts. In most cases the buried treasures take the form of references to staff members - like somebody's name slipped into the background, or somebody's face used on a character. Fun stuff. (Via)
  • Don't worry, the title of the game This Game Sucks doesn't refer to quality, but to the premise. You've got a little vacuuming device and you want to suck up all the fruit. Just be careful you don't get it while its spiky, or it'll bust your machine. And also look out for the similarly sharp space farmers. Not sure what all this is about, but it makes for an amusing little diversion. (Via)

  • In retrospect, this was bound to happen, but there's still something awe-inspiring about its existence: Snakes on a Plane the Role-Playing Game. We don't believe any further commentary is necessary. (Via)
  • One of those wonderfully useless and yet utterly charming things that the internet was made for: the Virtual High Five. Go ahead and try it out! But wash your hands first, for God's sake. (Via)
  • The third X-Men movie is coming, and even those of us who didn't love the first two are kind of excited about this one. This time around the filmmakers are taking on some of the biggest, most dramatic storylines from the comics, including the Sentinels. You can get a partial look at one of these giant villains in a fantastic clip from the movie that was aired on Jay Leno recently - links to the video in various formats can be found here. (Via)
