Yo, Philly in the News

Philly Thickburger- It's official, Philadelphia's annual Fourth of July celebration on the Parkway will feature Lionel Ritchie and...U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito? Frankly, we're a little disappointed the former Commodore and the Justice aren't going to be doing a duet. (For a full-listing of events for the week long celebration, visit the America's Birthday website). (Via)

- More bands are having their vans stolen on our city streets. Come on, now, Philly; haven't we talked about this before?

- The Philadelphia School District has resolved to "equalize educational services and programs throughout different areas of the city over the next four years," to which we say, "Right on!" We're just hoping they don't plan to do it by going the way of Nebraska.

- According to PR Newswire, Hardee's has released a new "Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger (TM)," which is essentially a Hardee's 1/3 pound Thickburger, with a cheesesteak on top. "It's one of the few fast-food burgers to use meat as a condiment." Meat as a condiment. That's just grand. So much for Philly's less-fat and veggie-friendly reputation. We might as well change our motto to "Philadelphia, Just a Bunch of Hungry Carnivores." My arteries hurt just looking at the thing. (Via)
