- This isn't a weird crime, but it is a weird event: Friday night a man (supposedly in his early 60s) had a heart attack and collapsed in Southwest Philly. Unfortunately, this happened right along the tracks of the Route 36 trolley, which promptly struck him. He was taken to the hospital at U Penn where, sadly but rather inevitably given what had happened to him, he later died.
- The Philadelphia Inquirer has a fun run-down of the freebies you can get if you work for the Pennsylvania state legislature. They include free tickets to movies, the circus, golfing, and Penn State football, as well as VIP season ski passes and even a little "get out of jail free" card (so to speak) that's supposed to make state troopers look the other way. All these perks apparently come from lobbyists and the like, but it's hard to say exactly, as Pennsylvania is the only state left that has no law requiring lobbyists to disclose what they spend to influence legislation. Of course, supposedly our politicians are not unduly influenced by all this free junk, and still consider each lobby fairly and on its own merits. Yeah. Uh huh.
- After the recent arrest of their alleged accomplice, warrants have been issued for two Overbrook teens supposedly responsible for a series of gunpoint robberies of students (mainly from St. Joe's) and others over the past month. Police say they're armed and dangerous, and tend to frequent the area of 41st and Brown. Their crime spree started "when they robbed a Domino's pizza deliveryman and stole his 1997 Lexus, police said." They then used the Lexus in their future robberies. Our question is, what's a pizza deliveryman doing driving a Lexus??
