Foodsday Tuesday: Breaking Thursday News

milkshake.gifWawa has milkshakes! Wawa has milkshakes!

Phillyist walked in to the 38th Street Wawa last evening in search of mac'n'cheese (Wawa's version is the ultimate comfort food) and a fountain Coke. We were just about to serve ourselves a soda when we turned around and noticed a shiny new machine with pictures of milkshakes and frozen coffee on it.

Here's how this thing works: under the milkshake machine is a little freezer with cups of frozen pre-milkshake. You pick your flavor (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, which we chose, or coffee), put it in the machine, select your thickness (you have three choices; Phillyist chose extra-thick), and away your cup goes, up into the machine! Wait a few minutes, and you have a pretty delicious milkshake. (For those of you who've ever been to a What-a-burger, it's kind of like that.)

We're not sure how many Wawas have this miraculous machine yet, but it's worth checking out! Leave us a comment and let us know where else we can find one.

There are a few Wawas in the burbs that have those machines as well. I haven't tried it out yet, but I've been meaning to. Also, I just discovered that Rita's has a Vanilla and Strawberry custard twist. Mmmm!

Oh, man. That's so exciting. I need to check the Wawas near me for this thing now. Field trip!

how much was it? if it's close to what i'd normally pay, i might prefer the old fashioned type of milkshake. good news to know in any case. thanks.

I think they were a very reasonable $1.99 + tax. Comparable with McDonalds, but much tastier. (In my opinion -- but then I was raised on Arby's and Whataburger's milkshakes, and these are much more similar to that...)

They have 'em at the 11th and Arch Wawa, as well. They may have had the machine there for a while; I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it. They're actually $1.99 w/tax. And not great, but not bad, either. If you're desperate for a shake-like treat and happen to be near a Wawa, it's a good deal.

Hey, that's not bad. When's somebody going to do a Wawa milkshake machine Google maps hack?

Speaking of Rita's, the one at 15th and Spruce-ish has indoor seating. What is going on?

i finally got one. am drinking/slurping it now. not bad. the machine was surprisingly easy to use. i'd still rather have a good humor strawberry shortcake bar though

there is a milkshake machine at the wawa on Grant and Bustleton.

man this is awesome
