Whiz of the Web: Friday Fried Onions

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

  • Remember a day or so ago when we mentioned that French law that would force Apple to stop selling music in only proprietary formats? Well, the law passed, but Apple is balking. They say it "will result in state-sponsored piracy." An analyst for Piper suspects Apple will give up the French market altogether before it will give up its right to sell its DRM-protected exclusive format (via). C'mon, Apple, let the music loose! Rock and roll is about freedom, not exclusivity.
  • We're still not sure exactly what the name of the Nintendo Revolution will be, but the rumor flaming across all the internets right now, based on an image (which you can see above) of what's supposed to be part of a slide leaked from an upcoming official Nintendo slideshow, is that it'll be the Nintendo Go. Again, this is just a rumor, for now. But if it's true...well, that's not too bad a name. Not really as good as Revolution, but okay. (Via)
  • Speaking of changes to upcoming next-gen video game consoles, Sony has finally given up on the much-reviled (on the websites we read, anyway) "boomerang" design for their PS3 controllers. As yet there's no word on (or image of, for that matter) what the redesign will look like. We're actually rather fond of the old DualShock controllers, but apparently those are out of the question. Poor Sony!

  • Some Terminator-related movie news for you: supposedly a Terminator 4 is in the works and there's a spot open in the cast for Arnold. Phillyist was originally against the idea of a Terminator 3, as we didn't see where they could go with the story after the finality of Terminator 2, but we were proven wrong when we watched the film and discovered it was surprisingly good. So we're willing to accept a Terminator 4. But an old, overweight terminator seems like maybe a mistake. Isn't it time for this series to leave Arnold behind, just as California has?
  • In other vaguely Terminator-related news, an actor known best for his role as the guy who went back in time to save Sarah Connor (although you may also remember him as Ripley's love interest in Aliens), Michael Biehn has supposedly been cast in "Project Terror," Robert Rodriguez's half of his and Quentin Tarantino's upcoming, much-anticipated (at least, by Phillyist) ode to horror B-movies past, Grind House. We've always loved Biehn, being as he's at the center of two of our favorite sci-fi movies, so this news just makes us want to see Grind House more, if that's possible.
  • And finally, we leave you today, on the verge of another weekend (blessed be!), with the celebratory words of the mighty Sir Mix-A-Lot's classic work "Baby Got Back," rendered into Latin. Enjoy! (Via)
