Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes

The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

  • If you haven't heard of the upcoming film Snakes on a Plane...well, where the hell have you been?! It's the internet's favorite movie, for God's sake! And even if you haven't heard of it, the title pretty much sums it up. Anyway, a trailer is now available, and really it's everything we could have hoped for. Phillyist can't wait to see the complete film. Sam L. Jackson is so going to kick some snake tail. (Via)
  • They're going to shake things up a bit in the upcoming Superman movie, Superman Returns, and reveal that Wolverine is Superman's father! Well, okay, not really. Actually, Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine in the X-Men movies, supposedly has a cameo in a flashback as Clark Kent's Earth father. It would be pretty funny if Wolverine was Superman's dad, though, huh? Imagine the family reunions...
  • This is what happens at SXSW when the geeks get drunk: a couple of days ago, two guys from Make Magazine and Eyebeam hacked a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner, adding Bluetooth and making it controllable remotely from a laptop computer, then tricked it out with a green costume and played Frogger "for real" on Sixth Street in Austin at two in the morning. Ultimately the thing made 10 trips across the street before it was destroyed by an SUV. Sadly, there doesn't appear to be any video, but there is a lovely photo gallery. (Via)

  • Dude, scientists have created a new state of matter. Phillyist remembers a year or so ago when scientists created a new form of matter (to go with the classics: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma), and we couldn't believe how little attention it got in the press. And here we go again, similar story, similar case of ignorance. Maybe they didn't hear the story right: we created a new state of matter. And check out this quote: "'Now that the Efimov state has been achieved, scientists can aspire to engineer the very properties of matter,' Chin said." Come on, that is fricking amazing! (Via)
  • This is hilarious: fake versions of Euro bills, which feature pictures of pornstars and which were made as a gimmick in Germany, are being successfully passed off as real currency. The story, along with NSFW pictures of the fake notes, is here. Of course, we can laugh at the Europeans now, but Phillyist bets if porn money started getting circulated in this country, plenty of people would accept it as the real thing. How many times have they changed the ten dollar bill in the past couple years, anyway? It might just be a new version, right? That just happens to have naked people on it. (Via)
  • An analysis of the data collected by seismometers which were placed on the moon by Apollo astronauts between 1969 and 1972 has revealed the existence of moonquakes: "Between 1972 and 1977, the Apollo seismic network saw twenty-eight of them; a few 'registered up to 5.5 on the Richter scale,' says Neal." Some of these quakes also lasted more than 10 minutes. So that moonbase we're planning may have to be pretty sturdy... (Via)

According to Snakes on a Blog, that isn't the REAL real trailer. It was just sorta a thrown together one they were using to promote the songwriting contest.

Man, I can NOT wait for that movie.

Real or not, it was excellent! I can't wait, either.
