The best thing about waiting till late in the afternoon to bring you Elite -ist? Even more stories to share!
Gothamist: If you're a little sad about the closure of New York's Plaza hotel, no fear! Most of the hotel's furnishings, along with cozy bathrobes and slippers, and old bellman's uniforms (seen at the right), will be auctioned off at Christie's. Today was the last day to view the lots up for auction, but the entire catalog is available online. Thanks to Gothamist for tipping us off. We hope that Eloise's red shoes fit!
Seattlest gives us another reason to love Rick Steves.
Londonist: Jack White is giving folks another reason to think that (a) musicians are stupid, and (b) Americans are stupid. Thanks, Jack!
Miamist: Miami prefers dogs to cats. So do we. Pesky allergies.
Parisist has some photos that made us think of Les Miserables. The book, not the musical. That hundred page expository passage on the sewers.
Bostonist: Planning on being in Boston this St. Patrick's Day? Bostonist wouldn't recommend it. But if you absolutely insist, they've got a few tips for you. (Beware: it appears that municipal employees have the whole day off, so unless you're going to start your drinkin' early, you might not fit in the door anywhere.)
Houstonist: Texas independents are invoking the help of one of the state's greatest governors. No, not Dubya.
Chicagoist: The University of Chicago's archaeological museum, as well as other anthropological and archaeological museums worldwide, might have to hand over precious artifacts to suicide bombers' victims. We're not sure this makes sense, and UC isn't sure it's legal. That means it will probably happen anyway.
SFist reminds us why racists suck. Not that that fact wasn't obvious before.
DCist: Washington is getting a new stadium (which you might have already known), and the designs were released today (which you might not have).
Shanghaiist: Remember how in grade school, there were crossing guards to help you get to the other side of the street if you were walking home? Apparently, they're doing double duty in Shanghai.
