Elite -ist: IHOP Edition

priest.jpgTwenty-four hours of -ist, condensed and brought to you by your favorite -ist of all.

DCist: It seems to be a very pancakey day today. Especially for priests in purple.

Austinist: We are now huge Michael Huff fans. And we're not even sure what he does (although we assume he plays baseball).

Chicagoist tips us off that IHOP was giving out free pancakes till 2PM today. We don't know where we could find an IHOP in the area, but believe us, if we knew, we'd have been there.

Miamist: We can't help but think about Isadora Duncan whenever we hear about Bugatis. We blame our high school dance teacher. Sexy car, though.

Houstonist: The Texas Lottery: Odds now 22% more in your favor!

LAist gives us another reason to be happy it's harder to censor live television on the East Coast.

Bostonist wants to know what you're giving up for Lent.

Shanghaiist: Work will kill you. Be a slacker. Blog about it.

Torontoist: We didn't even read this post. But we like Post-Its. And we like profanity. So the picture was enough.

Gothamist: If you jack off on the subway, you will get caught.

Seattlest: Not all indie bands are willing to sell out. Bitch.

Maybe there's an IHOP in Allentown. I know I've never seen one in Pennsylvania.

Actually, I've been to several in the suburbs here. For a while one of them was my uber-philistine father's favorite restaurant (he's still rebelling against my gourmet-hedonist-intellectual grandparents; and since he's an awful person in general, who tortured me when I was a child, and did his best to convince me that he's a wicked foolish idiot, he's successfully radicalized me along the inverse vector...). For both lunch _and_ dinner. (They actually have country fried steak... unfortunately, though, no deep-fried twinkies to go with it.)

I wonder whether national pancake day always coincides with Fat Tuesday. (Wouldn't it be better to make it the morning _after_ Fat Tuesday?... they should open early, around aubade-composing hour. And offer a little hair o' the dog.... (in Paris I was able to get a decent five-course dinner 24 hours. Carpaccio... foie gras... pig hoofs... escargot... mmmmm. Even better than Silk City.))

(Last semester I went to a show called "bad sex stories". A comedian from NYC told a story about how she was having sex with a male model from Jamaica for eight hours---his erection just wouldn't end (she later found out it was because he was on cocaine), and she was getting really really bored. And she started fantasizing obsessively about pancakes. Banana pancakes. And then, after a few hours, she finally had some. And they were incredibly delicious.)

When I was little, I did truly love IHOP's pigs in a blanket. Along with fettucini alfredo, and mushrooms stuffed with crab, and milk, and custard, my very favorite dishes from the ages of 3-11....
