Fun and interesting stuff on TV this week:
Lost (Wed; 9-10PM; ABC): Thank god it's a new episode - Phillyist got a little upset when we realized they were re-running the pilot last week, and that there would be nothing new from that mysterious little island and its weird and wonderful band of castaways. The new stuff this time is that Claire's baby is mysteriously sick, and she's headed back to the scene of her kidnapping in search of a cure. Meanwhile, the boys are trying to keep secret the fact that they have a prisoner who may be one of the mysterious "Others." Notice how many times I used forms of the word "mysterious" there? Yeah. Skating with Celebrities (Thu; 9-10PM; Fox): At long last, the final episode of this, one of the most dangerous and poorly conceived reality shows in a long line of dangerous and poorly conceived reality shows. Watch to find out who the winning couple is, if for some reason you really care. (Official site)
Conviction (Fri; 10-11PM; NBC): From the creators of "Law & Order" comes...another show about crime and lawyers! Um...yawn. Still, if you want to see if this show has something going on that makes it better than the thousand other lawyer shows on TV, now's your chance to get in on the ground floor; this is the pilot episode.
Bride of Frankenstein (Fri; 10-11:30PM; AMC): Of course, if you're bored of new lawyer shows, you could try an old classic. Bride of Frankenstein is way more than just a black and white horror B-movie starring a lady with some crazy hair. It's a fantastic, subtle, post-modern horror parody, and just all around a grand old movie. If you've never seen it, now's the time. (IMDB page)
The 78th Annual Academy Awards (Sun; 8-9:30PM; ABC): Yeah, they claim this is only going to last 90 minutes, but we all know it will go on for HOURS. The good news is, this year they actually have somebody genuinely smart and entertaining hosting (Jon Stewart, pictured above), so hopefully with his help this dinosaur of an awards show might be fresh and funny again. And btw, Phillyist is rooting for Good Night, and Good Luck to win Best Picture. Go George Clooney! (Official site)
