People are already gathering at the Park Hyatt at Broad and Walnut to see President George W. Bush pimp his Strategy for Victory for Iraq. The sold out presentation to the World Affairs CouncilPresident's speech is due to start shortly before noon, will last approximately 40 minutes, and - at the insistence of the White House - will not have a 'question and answer' session following the speech.
President Bush is not the only politico in Philly, though - Pennsylvania congressman John Murtha is in town today to get a briefing on military operations at the Port of Philadelphia, followed by a press conference at 1:30pm to respond to the President's speech. Murtha, ranking member and former chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, a Vietnam combat veteran and a retired Marine Corps colonel with 37 years of service, recently called for "the immediate re-deployment of U.S. troops from Iraq."
While we recommend avoiding Center City today, if you want to see some good people watching you might just want to head over to the Park Hyatt (on foot, of course) to watch the circus unfold.
