Our Past, Our Future, Our New MP3s

philadelphiacd.jpgThink your karaoke version of "Private Eyes" is the ultimate Philly cover of a Philly band? Well - think again our friend. Those lovely folks at Plain Parade are celebrating their 3rd anniversary with the release of Songs from the Sixth Borough "a compilation featuring twenty Philadelphia artists covering Philadelphia musicians past and present," and among the tunage is a cover of said Hall & Oates song by Method and Result.

Ok, fair enough - the album isn't available just yet, so we haven't heard Method and Result's cover yet...and we haven't heard you sing "Private Eyes" either (but we bet you even do that upside-down eyeglasses things with your hands) so maybe your cover is better. But your's isn't on Songs from the Sixth Borough and theirs is...along with Yah Mos Def's version of Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" & Canine10's rendition of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "Parents Just Don't Understand". ( Update: Alas, it seems Yah Mos Def and Canine10 won't be appearing on this collection after all. For a current list of songs and artists, visit the Plain Parade website.) There's a lot of local talent - covering and being covered - in this collection; so much, in fact, that we're a little embarrased to admit the cover we're most looking forward to hearing is Rifle Nice's version of the "Channel 6 Action News Theme." (We saw Jon Stewart and David Boreanaz cover that once - and it was awesome.)

Mark your calendars: Songs from the Sixth Borough will be available for your downloading pleasure on Tuesday the 22nd from Apollo Audio.
