If you're one of the 400,000 commuters who use SEPTA every day, congratulations! Looks like you'll be walking, biking, or cabbing it to work this morning -- the SEPTA union has declared a strike.
There's not much we can say to ease the pain. We can refer you to the SEPTA contingency plan, for what it's worth. We can even tell you what the issues are between the union and management (and it's not what you've been hearing on television from management). The best we can do is offer two bright spots: the threatened taxi cab strike was averted last week and, hey, at least it's going to be a really nice day for hoofing it.
One never knows how long a strike can last. The last one (in 1998) lasted 40 days. The longest lasted well over 100. The current strike is the ninth SEPTA strike since 1975.
