It’s Grown-up Time: Pumpkin Martinis
Halloween is a great holiday for kids – they get to wear costumes and take candy from strangers. Teens can throw toilet paper over trees and walk around dressed like playboy bunnies, and it’s all acceptable. But what about the poor, long-suffering adults? The ones who make sure that the kiddies don’t stab themselves to death while carving jack-o-lanterns and, oh yeah, actually provide all that free candy.
Phillyist thinks that adults need a little Halloween treat, too: Pumpkin Martinis. They’re orange, they’re highly alcoholic, and they make use of any leftover pumpkin bits you’ve got after the jack-o-lanterns are carved. Just make sure to plan ahead – the pumpkin vodka needs a week to steep – but we promise it’s worth it.
Pumpkin Martinis:
3 parts Pumpkin Vodka (see recipe)
1 part amaretto
Shake with ice, strain, and enjoy!
Pumpkin Vodka:
2 cups raw pumpkin flesh
1.5 cup vodka
¾ cup vanilla vodka
2 vanilla beans
4 to 5 inches cinnamon stick
Rinse out a 750 ml glass bottle – clear is nice so you can see the liquor turn orange, but any color will do. Slice up the pumpkin flesh into pieces small enough to get through the neck of the bottle, and shove them in. Add the vanilla beans and the cinnamon stick, then pour in the vodka. Twist on the lid, then let sit for one whole week.
The vodka is good straight up, but Phillyist prefers it in the Pumpkin Martini. We suspect that it’d probably stay good for awhile in the fridge, but to be honest, we drank it all too quickly to be certain.

'Dine, are we having this at Thanksgiving dinner? I hope so.
This sounds absolutely delicious -- but don't let the Cranky Cocktail hear you call it a martini!!
The Cranky Cocktail thinks that it sounds tasty too, and looks very much forward to trying this delicious Pumpkin Cocktail. He's sure that this Pumpkin Cocktail will be the hit of this fall season.
