We can understand how Bill "Probably Tired of Having Puddin' Pops Attached to His Name" Cosby might be a little skittish when it comes to dealing with our local media; after all, he's been having a tumultuous PR year. What we can't understand is how he figures denying venues the ability to advertise his appearances in The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Daily News is doing his shows any good or the papers any harm. In fact - by limiting their ability to get the word out to the largest audience possible - it seems to us that Cosby is only punishing the venues.
It is entirely possible, of course, that Cosby's singling out The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News in his latest contract has nothing to do with the coverage of his recent scandals. Maybe he's still bitter about their reactions to Ghost Dad and Leonard Part 6. But we doubt it.
We urge you to be careful, Mr. Cosby. After all, if you start snubbing all the major media venues - all you'll be left with is the likes of us. (Heads up to our sister site, Bostonist; it seems Mr. Cosby has put an ixnay on advertising in The Boston Globe, too). And frankly, we can't be trusted to be well-behaved when it comes to reporting the salacious scandals surrounding our beloved hometown icons. Call us petty if you must, Puddin', but we live for that sort of stuff.
