Kill Your Television

Nixon cartoon
After the last election cycle, we were tired of seeing political ads. We were so sick of them, in fact, that we called up Comcast and ordered a DVR, vowing never to go through another bout of election year ads. After all, how many times can you sit through an ad basically accusing an opponent of roasting kittens and small children over an open fire and then partaking of their sweet, tender flesh? That kind of thing just makes us hate politicians all the more.

Of course, if that leads us to do our own research on candidates to wade through the bullshit, well...that's not such a bad thing.

But here we are, ramping up for another hellish season of annoying political ads. We've been inundated with ads from Doug Forrester (and Doug Forrester's wife) ranting about those damn NJ Democrats and their corruption for months now. It's a real shame that Forrester's own finances are being investigated for possible fraud. Recently, another NJ gubernatorial candidate, Jon Corzine, started running ads. With the 2006 mid-term elections coming up, we are sure to be bombarded with slimy political ads any minute now.

What could possibly bring even more shame to politics? Have you heard that reality television stars are now thinking of jumping into the fray? Well, one is. Raj Bhakta, a local guy who lost on The Apprentice, is considering a run for Congress. The Montgomery County Republican wants to run against Allyson Schwartz in the 13th District.

Great. Just what the Philadelphia region needs: reality television Z-list celebs in positions of power. We can't wait for those political ads.
