Break a Leg: This Week in Philadelphia Theatre

r_betweenus.jpgBetween Us - The tale of two friends who reunite and find that living their dreams isn’t as perfect as they’d thought it would be. Philadelphia premiere. September 28-October 15, Adrienne Theatre. For tickets and information, see The Flashpoint Theatre Company’s ticketing site.

Cats - Before Disney’s Lion King brought the wildlife of Africa to the theatre, Andrew Lloyd Weber brought the alleycats of T.S. Eliot. Love it or hate it, you’ve got to admire the longevity of the play, showing at the Media Theatre September 28-October 23.

Good Evening - Once upon a time, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (remember him?) put a revue up in Philadelphia. And it was a hit. They’re obviously not performing this time around, but you can see the revue as they wrote it at the Act II Playhouse in Ambler, through October 16.

I Married Wyatt Earp - The Shootout at the OK Corral has become the stuff of legend. Dashing cowboys, dusty streets – where were all the women? This musical, being performed at the Bristol River Theatre from September 27-October 16, seeks to answer that question.

The Lady From the Sea - Henrik Ibsen. We all read him in high school. He liked to write plays about women who felt trapped by domesticity. This is no exception. The play runs September 30-October 30 at the Lantern Theater.

Loot - Bank robbers and body snatchers and Catholics, oh my! The play runs through October 30 at the Arden Theatre in Olde City. For more information, or for tickets, see the Arden’s website.

A Shot in the Dark - Although this isn’t the same story as the Pink Panther film of the same name, there will be lots of ridiculous French characters trying to solve a crime. The play will be performed at the Stage Crafters Theater in Chestnut Hill through October 1. For show dates and ticket information, see the production website.

I Am My Own Wife - This award-winning play (based on the life of a German transvestite) was first workshopped in Philadelphia, and now it’s back in Philadelphia as a mainstage production, running through October 23. For tickets and show information, see the Wilma’s online box office.

The Member of the Wedding - The People’s Light and Theatre presents this Carson McCullers coming-of-age story through October 23. For more information or to order tickets, see the People’s Light website.

The Nerd - We here at Phillyist like to think of ourselves as nerds. So the idea of a play called exactly that excites us. For a real summary of the play, which runs through October 2, or for showtimes and information, see the Delaware Theatre website.

Nunsense - The only thing that could make nuns less scary to us would be having them sing and dance. Which is what they do in Nunsense. If you, too, want to get over your fear of nuns, you can see the production at the Old Academy Players, Inc. Through October 2.

Only Kidding - We love any play that warns “Contains explicit language.” The comedy about a has-been stand-up runs at the Montgomery Theater through October 8. Ticket prices are available here.

Anton in Show Business - Everyone loves a backstage play, and this one (about a production of Chekov’s The Three Sisters) looks to be especially filled with, well, backstage drama. The show runs through this weekend at the Barnstormers Theater in Ridley Park. For more information, call them at 610.461.9969, or see their website.

Finian’s Rainbow - Saint Patrick’s Day may be over six months away, but it’s never too soon in the year for leprechauns! The play runs at the Walnut Street Theatre through October 23. For more information on tickets, go here.

Of Mice and Men - You read it in high school, now see it on stage! The Ritz Theatre Company in Oaklyn, New Jersey, brings you their production of this popular John Steinbeck adaptation through October 8. To buy tickets, select the “buy tickets online” link on the company’s main page.

Macbeth - We all read it in high school, and we probably remember it at least a little, so we’ll spare you the trouble of reading our summary and just let you check out the Curio Theatre Company’s production of “The Scottish Play.” The play runs at the Calvary Center through September 30. For more information, or to buy tickets, check out the production website.

Quinnopolis vs. Hamlet - You’d better just click the link above for a description of the play, which promises to be “Kill your brother and steal his wife funny.” The play, directed by David Dalton, will run through this weekend at the Walnut Street Theatre Independence Studio on 3. For showtimes, see the 1812 Productions schedule.

Menopause: The Musical - The name says it all, doesn’t it? Shows at the Society Hill Playhouse, Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM, Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, and 5:30 PM on Sunday. Tickets are $45. Call 215.923.0210 for reservations. The Society Hill Playhouse is located at 507 South 8th Street in Philadelphia.
