Speaking of outwardly directed, Philadelphia Weekly’s Jessica Pressler has nominated the city of Philadelphia as “The Next Borough” in The New York Times.
It’s nice to see Philadelphia get some good press, although her contentions that 1) we’re the next borough and 2) we’re in “the first wave of what could be called Philadelphia’s Brooklynization” are a bit dubious. 8,000 commuters and Brooklyn transplants do not a borough make. And give thanks to whatever demons conjure New Jersey traffic - even though Pressler name-checked Northern Liberties and Fishtown, rents there probably won't double by this time next year. We're even less convenient than Staten Island!

i moved to staten island from philadelphia. i can assure you, nothing is more inconvenient than staten island.
i'm an nyc transplant, and I'm fucking glad we're not the sixth borough! much love to both cities.
