Soldiers killed in Iraq

Phillyist mourns the loss of three area National Guard soldiers killed in action in Iraq. Pennsylvania has lost seven soldiers in the last seven days in the War on Terror or Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism, as you prefer.

Gennaro Pelligrini, Jr., 31, was a police officer based in the Fishtown precinct and an aspiring boxer. Nathan DeTample, 19, was a 2004 graduate of Pennsbury High School in Levittown in Bucks County. John Kulick, 34, was a veteran firefighter from Whitpain Township. He is survived by a nine-year-old daughter.

To date, the Philadelphia region has lost at least 39 soldiers in Iraq.
