Words can’t describe how excited we are to discover a new coffee shop that just sprouted up in just the right place – right across the street from a gym and smack dab on the bridge between University City and Rittenhouse Square. Owned and operated by two people who left corporate America in search of coffee wishes and chocolate truffle dreams, Mike Caro and Edna Cruz, The Walnut Bridge Coffee House provides a selection of gourmet coffee, teas, chocolates and pastries in a universally comfortable setting. Illy coffee offerings range from cappucino ($3.00 for 16 oz.) and café au lait ($2.50 for 16 oz.) to espresso ($1.50) and our personal fave – the iced chocolate biscotti. Noshes include linzer bars ($2.50), éclairs ($1.65) and local bagels at $1.25 a pop. There is so much high-end chocolate in this place it would put Willy Wonka to shame.
A vast assortment of San Francisco-imported Joseph Schmidt truffles such as pecan praline, macadamia Jamaican rum and traditional all milk or all dark ($1.30 per gigantic piece) fill the display case while Droste Chocolate Pastilles ($3.75 per pack) can be found towards the back of the House and there are also chocolate croissants and chocolate milk. Speaking of the non-coffee addicts, Nantucket Nectars ($1.65), Vitamin Waters ($1.75), Wild Fruitz ($1.85) and a number of delicious teas can be had. Seating capacity is up to 15, so patrons may either linger over the New York Times or grab their drink and go. Be warned impulse items like mini Scharffenberger and caffeinated mints are as good as the coffee products!
Walnut Bridge Coffee house is open 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM daily and located at 2319 Walnut Street.

yet another philly eatery/potential place to hang out and do whatever that closes at a ridiculously early time...it's like being excited about another 'saloon' in an 'old west' tourist attraction - nice to look at but belongs to another time
Bagged tea? Tsk tsk.
Was there this evening and really enjoyed myself. Their dessert selection is phenomenal and the atmosphere is all that a coffee house should be. Sure they close too early -- but we talked to the owners on the way out and they said the're thinking about expanding their hours once they're really up and running.
Was just here this very evening and must say that I really enjoyed this place. The deserts were great. True, one of my companions' tiramisu had the wrong consistency from having sat out for a while, think similar to pasta, but one could not fault the taste. It was quite good. Between this, my chocolate creme brulee and a raspberry linzer, we all agreed that the coffee shop was significantly better than our sub-par dinner at Eco Qui. Besides, could you really go wrong sitting in comfort and eating your decadent desert while people in Sweat gym are doing their work out and have to stare at you?
