If you'd like to hear live music this weekend but don't feel like venturing to the dreaded Parkway, you've got another option: Philadelphia's hard-rockin' dance-electronic group Kandy Whales is shooting their first music video. To celebrate, they're throwing a block party, complete with music, beer and food - all free (this is starting to sound better than that other concert already). And if you hang out after the party, you could end up in the video.
The block party is this Sunday, July 3, from 2-6 pm on the 1500 block of South Camac (near 12th & Tasker). Kandy Whales will play a set around 5 and then finish shooting the video at another location. Their website promises: "If you bring raw meat, somebody'll probably grill it for you right there while you drink your beer and hang out with the cool kids." BYOM: Genius! Are you listening, Live 8?
